Het contragewicht voor de buidel van een Tibetaanse monnik. Een brok Ebbenhout – een houtsoort die bekend staat om zijn hardheid, gewicht en diep zwarte kleur – werd door jarenlange aanraking gevormd en gepolijst tot een perfecte bol. 2018

A new version of the ’Deltoilicositetrahedron’ (#2) The counterweight of a pouch used by Tibetan monks. A block of ebony – wood known for its solidity, weight and black colour – was formed and polished by touch over several decades. These blocks ended up as a perfect sphere. 2018

‘Rosalind Franklin’
Een nieuw laboratorium, gebouwd op de locatie van de ‘Dutch state mines’, beter bekend als de gistfabriek Delft, is vernoemd naar Rosalind Franklin. Een minder bekende Chemica die een grote bijdrage heeft geleverd aan de ontdekking van DNA.

A new lab, build on site of the Dutch state mines Delft, better known as the Yeast Plant in Delft, is named after Rosalind Franklin. A less known scientist who had a large contribution in the discovery of DNA.

‘Descendant’
Een van de oudste bomen van Nederland staat in de Hotus Botanicus in Leiden. Geen prestigieuse boom, maar een paar twijgjes in een plantenbak. ‘Descendant’ speelt met het idee dat een nieuwe boom groeit uit zijn voorganger. Een zaadje is geplant in de kieren van deze massief eikenhouten bol.

‘Descendant’
One of the oldest trees of the Netherlands grows in the Hotus Botanicus in Leiden. No glamourous tree, but just some twigs in a pot. ‘Descendant’ plays with the idea of a young new tree growing on the remains of its predecessor. A seed is planted in a groove of this solid French oak sphere.

‘Marheeze’
Villa Maarheeze is gesitueerd in Wassenaar. Deze villa is tussen 1960 en 1990 gebruikt door de Nederlandse inlichtingendienst. De vorm van het ovale zolderraam is gebruikt en nagebouwd met eikenhout. De leistenen dakpannen van de villa komen ook terug in het werk. Door het gebruik van nylon bussen, is het mogelijk de twee eiken delen afzonderlijk van elkaar te draaien.

Using the shape of a Window from the villa “Maarheeze” situated in Wassenaar. This Villa was used to house the Dutch Intelligence from the 1960’s till the 1990’s. This Oval window on the top floor of the villa, is turned 90 degrees and constructed out of oak parts on where Slade stone tiles are placed, making it a small roof and the shape of an eye investigating the world. Placed on a pole and build in two parts, makes it possible to turn the whole structure.

‘Piepschuim
Een Blok geëxpandeerd polystyreenschuim, ‘piepschuim’. Alles wat we kunnen zien of lezen, is een tekst over de Gulden Snede en de Fibonacci Reeks. Met deze tekst kan de beschouwer zich een beeld vormen wat dit blok zou kunnen zijn. Met gebruik van de alom bekende en geprezen uitspraak van Michelangelo: “Het beeld zit al in het blok, ik hoef het er alleen nog maar uit te halen.” Als dit werk is gepresenteerd op een plek waar ook de bovenkant gezien kan worden ontvouwt zich een kleine wenteltrap. Een vorm die de gulden snede, de ‘spiraal’ van Fibonacci is in zijn perspectief.

Piepschuim
A big Styrofoam block standing upright. The only thing we can see or read, is a text about the Golden ratio and the Fibonacci sequence. With this text the viewer can create a three-dimensional picture in their mind of what this block is or can be. Using the well-known statement of Michelangelo: “the sculpture is already inside, I only need to take away the excess material.” When this work is presented in a space where the viewer can also see the upper side a small spiral staircase will reveal itself. Being the golden ratio in its perspective.

A plaster mould of a figure in a squatting position. Based on the terracotta soldiers found in China in 1974. Like these soldiers were hidden underneath the earth for centuries, this figure is also hidden, even when you would open the mould nothing can be seen but a negative imprint.

Asfalt is een mix van verschillende elementen. Één van de belangrijkste is Bitumen. Dit materiaal, met dezelfde viscociteit als teer, is in 1816 gebruikt om een van de eerste foto’s te maken.

Asphalt is a mixture of several different materials. One of the components ( the most important element ) is ‘bitumen’. This material, which has the same viscosity as tar, was used to make one of the first photo’s around 1816.
